 Smart Through Art

St. Mary’s Boys National School Booterstown will partake in their second Comenius project titled
‘Smart Through Art’.
The aim of the project is to foster closer ties between children and teachers of EU member states
through a common theme which will revolve around the theme of Art over the next two years.
St. Mary’s B.N.S. has been grouped with another schools from Ireland and schools from Portugal, France and the U.K. Together, these schools will plan for and the children will create Art projects with a common theme.
Pupils and teachers alike from across the different countries will get the opportunity to communicate with one another through Skype, emails and e-twinning. Children will also send one another their craft works reflecting a national treasure. Teachers will also get opportunities to share ideas, methodologies and experience different types of learning environments across the continent. The website will be updated on a regular basis over the next two years on the progress of the project.
As part of the Comenius Project also, Carolina, a teacher from Spain has been appointed to the school full time for the 2013-14 year and will be given the opportunity to teach various classes Spanish.

Comenius Tiles Display

Please come and visit our EU Comenius tiles display on both floors in the new building extension of the school. This display contains tiles of Irish landmarks  painted by boys from St. Mary's and also tiles that were given to us by our partner schools from Portugal, France, the UK and Ballapousta NS, Co. Louth, Ireland that contain their own native landmarks. We in turn have given tiles to these same schools so they could create their own display!

Ireland-Comenius Hosts

12th-17th March 2014

32 teachers, parents and children from the UK, France and Portugal visited Ireland from 12th-17th March 2014.

They visited St. Mary’s on Friday, 14th March where the visiting children partook in interactive lessons in the different classes they were based in. They also went to Glendalough, Newgrange and the St. Patrick’s Day parade in Dublin and had a fantastic time.

We really enjoyed hosting the teachers and children from our partner schools and the St. Mary's boys gave them a huge 'Céad Míle Fáilte!'

We have already started penpal-emailing them to find out about them and what their schools and countries are like!
