Junior Infants 2018

A big welcome to all our new junior infants and their families!

Some of the actvities we have been working on as we start out the year are construction, fine motor actvities, painting, jigsaws and more during their morning actvities.

Visit to the National Gallery

We have rescheduled our visit to the National Gallery, which was postponed due to the snow earlier this month. We will now visit on Monday 9th April instead.

Seachtain na Gaeilge

Bhí na buachaillí ag déanamh an-iarracht an Ghaeilge a úsáid i rith na seachtaine. Tá cúpla frásaí faoi leith acu: Bain triail astu sa bhaile más féidir!

The boys were making a special effort to use Irish during the week. There are a few phrases in particular that they know: Try them at home if you can!

May I go to the toilet? = An bhfuil cead agam dul go dtí an leithreas?

What's in your lunch box? = Cad atá i do bhosca lóin?

I'm wet! = Tá mé fluich.

The boys can expand on these phrases with lots of other vocabulary they know too: May I go to the park/party/garden? etc. What's in your bag/pocket/shoe? etc. I'm cold/hot/dry...

Go n-éirí libh!

On Wednesday, we listened to traditional Irish music in the hall and saw some Irish dancing close up.

Visit to the Natural History Museum

Both junior infants classes visited the Natural History Museum this morning. We travelled by DART and visited Merrion Square afterwards, enjoying some rare sunshine in January! Some of the many native animals on display at the museum were giant deer, robins, halibut, badgers and dragonflies. On the first floor we saw many wild animals from all over the world, including skeletons of whales and chimpazees!

Book Buddies with Ms Casey's 4th class

Each fortnight, our book buddy partners come to read us books from the junior infants library. We are really enjoying listening to our favourite stories read aloud, and are excited about starting to read by ourselves very soon!

Team Hope Shoebox appeal

Junior infants brought in shoeboxes with Christmas gifts for children who are not as fortunate as themselves. They were packed with treats, toys and even something to wear. A Team Hope van came to the yard to collect all the shoeboxes at home time.

Our class managed to bring in 24 boxes and our school has sent a record 278 boxes this year! Well done to all.

Hallowe'en Fancy dress

Junior infants came to school in their fancy dress today! Thanks for all the donations to Trick or Treat for Temple Street Children's hospital.

Autumn 2017

Junior infants are learning about signs of autumn and about animals which hibernate for the winter. Here is our tree painting display, with real autumn leaves!

Junior Infants 2017

A big welcome to all our new junior infants and their families!

These are some of the actvities we have been working on as we start out the year. The boys are enjoying construction, fine motor actvities, painting, jigsaws and more during their morning actvities.

You might like to try some out at home also as a fun way to learn together...

As we begin to write with Jolly Phonics, it is important to establish good pencil grip. Here's how!
