In March we received a delivery of 5 caterpillars! They were very small - only about 1cm long! Over the coming weeks they ate from the food store at the bottom of the tub and grew quickly into large hairy caterpillars. Mrs Ballance brought them home with her for the Easter holidays and it is then that they stopped eating, hung from the lid of the tub and spun themselves into chrysalides. They were still at this stage when Mrs Ballance brought them into school after the Easter break. On Wednesday the first of the butterflies emerged and was shortly joined by the others. Today we released the butterflies! They seemed a bit nervous at first and were slow to fly off but we are certain that they are happy to be free!
