When we got to the beach we used what we had been taught to find the various creatures. Some groups found some Sea Potatoes, Thin Tellin Bivalves, Razor Clams and lots of types of seaweed. Others found Whelks, a Sand Goby and various types of oysters. We also found some shrimp and one group found a hermit crab. We managed to find the shell of a cockle that a dog whelk had made a hole in, in order to inject its acid and suck out the inside.
It was great fun learning how to sieve through the sand to find all the wildlife. Once we had found as many the creature on the treasure hunt list as we could, we then sat together to present our findings to the other groups.
Before returning to school we made sure to return all the live creatures back to their habitat and of course we picked up any rubbish we had come across while we were there. Mona taught us to always leave the beach cleaner than when we arrived. This is something simple that we can all do next time we visit the beach.
