Senator Barry Ward and his colleague Savannah very kindly gave up some their time to visit Sixth class this week and carry out a mock trial with us. Barry and Savannah acted as barristers while the students performed as the judge, the accused, soliciters, reporters, exhibits officer, court clerk, witnesses for the state, witnesses for the defence and of course, members of the jury. We learned so much about Ireland's courts, hung juries, how everyone is assumed innocent until proved otherwise and the importance of evidence. We had a fantastic day and most importantly, our jury found the defendant not guilty of stealing a box of Roses from Clarke's on Booterstown Avenue!
