On Tuesday 8th Oct, 6th class went to visit the National Gallery in Dublin City. We walked from the school to the DART station and took the DART to Dublin City. When we got off the DART, we walked to the National Gallery and were greeted by our tour guides for the day, Rosary and Manuel. Ms Phillips also came and her two children and we were split into two groups. Manuel took one, and Rosary took the other one. Our first stop was the famous Carravagio painting The Taking of Christ. It had a beautiful uniqueness and was amazing to look at.The second stop was the famous Vermeer of Woman Writing a Letter, with her Maid. Vermeer had a way of painting this piece. He did it by making a 3D room which he did in a lot of his paintings. Manuel’s group saw a painting called the Grief by J.B.Y. Jack Butler Yeats. It was about a war. Rosary’s group saw a still life painted by Picasso. It took a lot of imagination to figure out what was in the painting! It was a great day out at the National Gallery and we enjoyed seeing the real life paintings that we had been learning about in school.
