As you may know, the biggest annual fundraiser for the school is the Christmas Fair, and it is coming up on December 4th. The Parenbts Association need your help to make it a success and to raise as much funding for the school as possible!
Firstly, the PA need donations for the stalls at the fair and for prizes on the day. Vouchers, good quality used toys and books, any non perishable food/drink items, beauty products or other such gift items are all welcome! For anyone wishing to donate, there is a box in reception at the school where donations can be left.
Secondly, the PA will need bakers and donations of baked goods on the day. They will be running a cake and coffee/tea stall and a few generous local businesses have offered to support us in this regard but the PA would also really appreciate any donations from parents of baked goods.
Finally, the PA will be putting out a call for volunteers to man stalls on the day and to help the PA with set up in the girls school hall on the weekend of 3rd or 4th December. Anyone who is in a position to help please contact a member of the PA or your class rep with your details and times/days you are free.
The Parents association look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on Sunday 4th of December for what promises to be a great day out for all.
PARENT TEACHER MEETINGS
Our school parent/teacher meetings will take place this week. The main day for meetings will be Wednesday 23rd November. Some teachers, due to larger classes, may also schedule meetings on other days last week. Each teacher has set up a signup sheet on Aladdin with dates, days and times of meetings. This was released on Friday 28th October. Parents/ guardians should have received a questionnaire from your child's class teacher on Monday 7th of November which you may complete and return to the teacher outlining any queries you may have for the PT meeting. This should have been returned to the class teacher by Thursday 10th November. The class teacher will give you a written report of your child's progress on the day of your meeting. Further meetings may be scheduled by the class teacher and/or SET teacher should the need arise throughout the school year.
SACRAMENTS OF CONFIRMATION, FIRST RECONCILIATION & FIRST COMMUNION.
An email was sent out on Friday, via Aladdin, to all the relevant classes with enrolment details along with the dates for preparation sessions and the ceremonies. Please complete your enrolment by Friday December 2nd and forward to the parish email address given. Please see link. Enrolment Forms and Dates.
MOVING TO SECONDARY SCHOOLS
Although Saint Mary's BNS is not officially a feeder school for any local secondary school, we are situated in a catchment area with a great array of secondary schools and we have been very fortunate that most of our students have been been succssful in getting a place in the secondary school of their choice.
I strongly advise from 4th class upwards that all parents begin to look at the admissions policies of all the local schools and admission notitfications & deadlines for enrolment. Look out for and attend open days and open evenings. Look at the school websites and see what subject choices and extra curricular activities may appeal to your child.
I advise you apply to a few secondary schools and once you have been offered and accepted a place in a school of your choice please notify the other schools that you have have been offered and have accepted a place in a school, so that this new free place may be offered to another student.
Hockey lessons will being this Friday November 25th, 3rd -6th classes, with former St Marys student & Irish International hockey player Kenny Carroll from Hockey Ireland.
