St. Mary’s worked hard to achieve our much-valued Active Flag Award, which recognises the rich diversity in the range of activities and sports offered to our pupils. What is an Active School?

The Active School Flag (ASF) is awarded to schools demonstrate a drive and a focus to achieve a physically educated and physically active school community. The process aims to get more schools, more active, more often.

We achieved the ASF through a process of self-evaluating our provision across 3 areas: Physical Education, Physical Activity and Partnerships. We also organise an Active School Week programme and have committed to having it as part of their annual school calendar. The flag remains valid for a period of 3 years after which time we will be invited to re-apply.

ASF is a Department of Education and Skills initiative supported by Healthy Ireland and additional information is available on http://activeschoolflag.ie/
