Our Junior Infants have made a fantastic start to their school adventure! The past few weeks have been full of smiles, fun, and lots of learning through play and exploration. Here's a little peek into what we've been up to…
Exploring Colours – A Bright Beginning!
We’ve jumped right into our colour investigations, sorting and discussing all things bright and beautiful. From table activities with colourful objects to exciting colour hunts around the classroom, we’ve been developing early maths and language skills in a way that’s engaging and hands-on. We've been working both individually and as part of a team, building confidence and collaboration along the way!
Fine Motor Fun – Froggy Fingers in Action!
We’ve started our fine motor activities, which have been a huge hit! Using our special “froggy fingers”, we’ve been practicing cutting, colouring, and even beginning our early writing skills. These activities help build the strength and coordination we need for writing and drawing – and they’re great fun too
Outdoor Adventures – Obstacle Course & Nature Explorers
Our time in the school yard has been just as exciting! We’ve enjoyed our fantastic obstacle course, developing gross motor skills, balance and teamwork. Surrounded by nature, we’ve also been observing the world around us and using it to inspire our learning.
Storytime & Emotions – Meet Our Colour Monsters!
One of our favourite books so far has been “The Colour Monster”. Through this story, we’ve been learning all about our feelings. Each of us has our own little monster to help with our daily check-ins, helping us recognise and express how we feel each day – a wonderful part of our social and emotional learning.
“The Day the Crayons Quit” – Designing Our Own Crayons!
We also read the hilarious and imaginative “The Day the Crayons Quit”, which led to some brilliant discussions and creativity. Everyone designed their very own unique crayon – with lots of personality and colour!
Little Artists – Monet & Our Self-Portraits
To help us get to know each other, we made beautiful self-portraits, learning about our own features and celebrating how unique we all are. We also discovered the world of art by exploring Claude Monet’s stunning paintings. Linking with our colour theme, we created our very own versions of Monet’s Waterlilies – becoming true artists in the process!
It's been a joyful, colourful, and creative start to the year in Junior Infants. We’re so proud of how our little learners are settling in, making friends, and beginning their learning journey with such excitement and curiosity. We can't wait to see all the amazing things they'll do next!
Stay tuned for more adventures!
