The boys in 5th Class recently enjoyed a wonderful educational trip to the The Custom House on the quays in Dublin City. During the visit, they learned all about trade and business in Ireland during the 17th century and discovered how important the River Liffey was as a mode of transport before modern roads and the M50 existed. The class explored how goods arriving into Dublin had to pay custom taxes and learned about the burning of the Custom House in 1921 and its later reconstruction. They also discovered interesting facts about the rivers of Ireland, including that the River Liffey is the only river named after a woman. We also learned about the river gods. It was a very informative and enjoyable day out, and the boys represented the school excellently throughout the trip.
