The Junior Infants have been busy learning, exploring and creating over the past few weeks!

Our first topic of study was bees. The children learned about the important role bees play in nature and how they help plants to grow. Through Science, we investigated the life cycle of a bee and discovered how honey is made. In Visual Arts, the children created beautiful bee-themed artwork, while in Drama and Music, they enjoyed taking part in activities inspired by bees and their busy lives. To bring our learning outdoors, we went on a bee hunt in the local park, where the children observed bees and other insects in their natural habitat.

We then turned our attention to sea creatures in preparation for our school tour to the aquarium. Through Science, we explored a variety of marine animals and their habitats. The children created colourful ocean-themed artwork in Visual Arts and enjoyed songs and activities related to life under the sea in Music. An emerging interest in the class led to a more in-depth study of sharks, with the children learning fascinating facts about different shark species and challenging some common misconceptions about these amazing animals.

Our visit to the aquarium was a wonderful experience and a highlight of the year. The children were excited to see many of the sea creatures they had been learning about in real life. The day also included a trip on the DART, which was a great adventure for many of the children. We enjoyed a walk along the beach, explored the shoreline and, of course, finished off our day with a well-earned ice cream!

With the recent spell of lovely weather, we have made the most of every opportunity for outdoor learning. The children have been taking part in a wide range of activities outside, including literacy, numeracy, Visual Arts, and play-based learning. From reading and writing activities in the fresh air to outdoor maths games and painting projects, the children have thoroughly enjoyed bringing their learning beyond the classroom walls.

It has been a busy and exciting few weeks, full of curiosity, creativity and exploration. We are very proud of all the enthusiasm and engagement shown by the Junior Infants and look forward to many more learning adventures together.
