Science Week was a huge success this year, with hands-on experiments, demonstrations and plenty of curious minds at work!
One of the highlights of the week was our visit to Mark the Science Guy in the Lexicon library, Dún Laoghaire. One standout moment was when Mark demonstrated how a tornado is formed, showing the powerful forces behind these swirling currents of air. After watching the demonstration, some of us had the chance to create our own tornado in a bottle. He also spoke to us a lot about the different work of scientists and their role in predicting weather and climate change!
Back at school, we were delighted to welcome Rasha, who treated the students to a fascinating science workshop. We got to extract DNA from a strawberry. Step by step, the students mashed, mixed, and filtered until the DNA strands were visible. Even more impressively, they placed the strawberry DNA into small tubes with ethanol and got to bring their own DNA sample home as a souvenir!
The entire week was a fantastic celebration of curiosity, creativity, and the fun of science.
