The Lighthouse has had a wonderful and action-packed first term.
In September, the children settled into their new classroom in the main school building. We started our life skills lessons on Friday. We began by making orange juice each Friday following a visual aid. By the end of the month the boys mastered the task analysis and we able to make and enjoy their own delicious glass of orange juice.
October brought lots of seasonal fun. We recieved a visit from Ella for a week on a teaching placement who was a fantastic help and a great presence in the classroom. We made jam sandwiches, enjoyed bobbing for apples, and sang Five Batty Bats (many times), which quickly became a class favourite. We also completed a nature hunt on the yard collecting some of the seasonal leaves that began to fall from the trees. In art we also got to paint pumpkins before the half term break.
In November, we made refreshing lemonade and took part in gymnastics, focusing on balance, coordination and confidence. Throughout the term, the class also enjoyed regular PE sessions with gross motor circuits. We also saw the start of our new hot school lunches in November which have been a great addition and were implemented much smoother than we could have ever hoped for.
December was a busy and festive month. The children practised wrapping Christmas presents to develop fine motor skills and made delicious hot chocolate. In art, created cardboard Christmas trees, and designed beautiful Christmas decorations.
We also said a fond farewell to Advaith, who has moved on to a new school. We wish him all the best in his new school.
Well done to all the pupils in The Lighthouse for a fantastic first term!
