Over the past few weeks, our Junior Infants have been fully immersed in learning all about The Post through hands-on, playful experiences.

Writing and Posting Our Own Letters
The children each wrote their own letters, carefully placed them in envelopes, and learned how to address them. They designed and created their own stamps before proudly walking to a real post box to post their letters to friends. This real-life experience made the learning meaningful and exciting as the children watched their letters begin their journey.

Our Classroom Post Office
Our role play area transformed into a busy post office!

The children:

Took on the role of postal workers
Sorted letters into different piles (numeracy and literacy)
Stamped envelopes
Delivered mail around the classroom
Worked together as members of a community
Through this role play, they developed oral language, cooperation, and an understanding of community roles.

Building Our Community
Using construction materials and small world toys, the children built towns, villages, and cities. They added roads, houses, post offices, and post boxes to their creations. They explored where post boxes should be placed and how the post van would travel through the community to deliver letters.

Designing Stamps and Postboxes
Creativity was in full swing as the children designed their own colourful stamps and made model postboxes. This supported fine motor development and imaginative thinking.

A Visit from a Real Postman
We were delighted to welcome a real postman to our school. He showed us his post van and explained how he sorts and delivers letters each day. The children asked wonderful questions and loved seeing how it all works in real life.

Envelope Monsters

We used paper to design and create our own Envelope Monsters. The children added eyes, teeth, and lots of colour to make each monster unique. A fun and creative link to our Post theme!

This theme was rich in active learning. The children learned by doing — writing, building, designing, sorting, posting, and delivering. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm as they connected their classroom play to the real world around them.
